PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial material for culturing a plant, prompting the growth of the plant and a method for producing it. SOLUTION: This artificial material for culturing the plant is equipped with a porous calcined material consisting mainly of silica and alumina, and allowed to carry nitric acid component. The method for producing the artificial material for culturing the plant is to mix a powdery or granular raw material consisting mainly of at least 1 kind of the silica and alumina with a biological bone material consisting mainly of calcium phosphate and at least 1 kind of calcium phosphate-based additive for forming a mixed material, form a molded material by molding the mixed material as a prescribed shape and calcinate the molded material under a heating atmosphere to form a porous calcined material for carrying the bone material component or calcium phosphate on the calcined material. Further, it is possible to bring a liquid material containing nitric acid component in contact with the calcined material.
