PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crude gas cooler capable of cooling a crude gas by both of radiation and convection by one cooler. SOLUTION: In this crude gas cooler for introducing the crude gas formed in a gasification furnace 11 into the cooler and cooling the crude gas, a funnel- shaped slag separation pipe 18 is installed at a crude gas outlet 13 from the gasification furnace 11 in a main body 12 of the cooler. A slag cooling pipe 20 for discharging the separated slag to a quenching part 19 formed at the bottom of the main body 12 of the cooler is installed at the bottom of the slag separation pipe 18. A heat radiation heat transfer pipe wall 16 for radiating and cooling the crude gas separated by the slag separation pipe 18 is formed on the inner circumference of the main body 12 of the cooler. A convection heat transfer pipe group 21 is installed between the slag cooling pipe 20 and the heat radiation heat transfer pipe wall 16.
