PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a back flow of exhaust gas in an automobile engine are provided to accurately adjust back flow rate of the exhaust gas and to display a trouble of a control valve. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus and a method for controlling a back flow of exhaust gas in an automobile engine includes a control valve(60) installed on one side of an exhaust gas backflow pipe installed at a portion of a suction pipe(10) having a throttle valve; a negative pressure sensor(20) sensing negative pressure of the suction pipe; an exhaust temperature sensor(30) for sensing the temperature of exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust gas backflow pipe; the other sensor(40) sensing all kinds of information such as rotary frequency of an engine, load; a control part(50) controlling duty cycle of the control valve by using a signal input from the negative pressure sensor with outputting a control signal for displaying trouble state of the control valve by using a signal input from the exhaust temperature sensor; and a trouble lamp for displaying the trouble state.
