<p>The unit element consists of a prismatic block with four equal faces, formed from a material sufficiently rigid to be indeformable as a whole but sufficiently flexible to adapt itself to the body of the user. Two opposite faces are provided with means for joining to adjacent similar units, the repeated joining devices on one face fitting between the repeated devices in the adjacent face. the elements enable chairs, couches and other items of furniture to be constructed from the units. The element may be formed from a homogeneous structure of cellular plastic or rubber e.g. polyurethane or latex, but may also be a composite structure with a rigid core enclosed by a flexible surface layer. The means for joining the units may be gripping elements, press-buttons or similar devices.</p> |
