PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet paper coating improved by giving an image of a high optical gray level and excellent water resistance to paper and an improved method for manufacturing an ink jet recording sheet. SOLUTION: A coating composition comprises a PVOH composition obtained by blending an inorganic pigment or preferably a silica and an alkylated non- polymeric polyamine with a PVOH. A coated ink jet paper is manufactured by (a) obtaining an aqueous binder composition such as for example, an aqueous solution or a dispersant by blending the aqueous solution of the PVOH with the alkylated non-polymeric polyamine, (b) associating the binder composition with the aqueous pigment or preferably a silica or slurry paper coating composition, (c) coating the support with aqueous binder-pigment slurry composition, and (d) drying the coated support. |
