PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a compound metal oxide which comprises niobium and one or more other metals and has a high performance as a catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing a niobium-containing compound metal oxide, comprising mixing a solution containing one or more metals except niobium with a solution containing the niobium to form a slurry containing deposits including the niobium and the metals except the niobium, removing a solvent from the slurry, and then calcining the obtained compound metal oxide, characterized in that both the solutions are mixed with each other in a pipe type passage equipped with a stirring means to form the slurry.
