PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for carrying out caustic reduction treatment of polyester fiber, capable of efficiently and economically carrying out reduction treatment even under mild conditions. SOLUTION: When a polyester fiber is subjected to caustic reduction treatment, an aqueous alkali solution containing 20-60 wt.% dialkyl ether (whose alkyl groups have 1-4 carbon numbers) of polyethylene glycol having 2-10 average polymerization degree of oxyetheylene unit is used as the treating liquid.
