EMULSION POLYMERIZATION METHOD FOR VINYL-BASED COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an emulsion polymer high in polymerization stability and mechanical stability by emulsion-polymerizing one or more of ethylene-based unsaturated monomers chosen from acrylic acid- based, styrene-based and diene-based monomers. SOLUTION: Emulsion polymerization is performed for one or more of ethylene-based unsaturated monomers chosen from acrylic acid-based, styrene- based and diene-based monomers by a method wherein (A) 100 pts.wt. of a polyvinyl alcohol of a saponification value of 92 mol% or more and 4% water solution viscosity of 4-30 mPa.s at 20 deg.C is mixed with (B) 0.1-10 pts.wt. of a partially saponified polyvinyl alcohol of a saponification value of 60-90 mol% and 4% water solution viscosity of 5 mPa.s or less and (C) a chain transfer agent is continuously dropped into the mixture throughout the process of polymerization.
