PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for adjusting stroke of the electrode in the welding machine which prevents deformation of works and protects the electrode from damage by adjusting stroke of the electrode. SOLUTION: In the device for adjusting stroke of the electrode 5 which is attached at the tip of the electrode holding member 4 connected with the moving contact arm 1 which is driven by a motor, there is set a spring 11 between the top of the moving contact arm and the electrode holding member; there is also set at the electrode holding member an acceleration sensor to detect the contact of the electrode with works by the change of acceleration of the electrode holding member, or a position sensor to detect the same by the change of position of the electrode holding member against the moving contact arm. Through the action of sensor to control the motor, forward movement of the moving contact arm is suppressed, and as well as through the action of the spring, forwarding power of the electrode is absorbed, thus the contact of the electrode with works can be alleviated.
