PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a functional paper having an excellent water resistance due to improvement of paper itself without depending on petroleum resources, under the consideration of saving resources and environmental protection. SOLUTION: The waterproof paper characteristically including fibers having carbonyl groups converted from carbinol groups of cellulose skeleton by its oxidation, is obtained and it is used alone or after being mixed with unmodified pulp. Since the carbonyl group has a high polarity and a water repellency, the modified pulp causes strong hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic bonds in the produced paper after dehydrating/drying in paper making. Thus, the modified paper whose raw material pulp contains carbonyl groups, which are produced by partly oxidizing carbinol groups in the skeleton of usual pulp, is obtained.
|
