PURPOSE: A noise reduction apparatus is provided to reduce noise at a specific frequency band from among the striking noise of a discharge valve or pulse noise caused during refrigerant compression. CONSTITUTION: A hermetic reciprocating compressor comprises a discharge muffler(200), a discharge valve(220), a valve plate(230), and a gasket(210) equipped with a Helmholtz resonator having a size sufficient to damp a predetermined frequency from among the noise caused by the compressor. The Helmholtz resonator has open top and bottom, the discharge muffler disposed onto the gasket closes the top of the Helmholtz resonator, and the discharge valve disposed beneath the gasket closes the bottom of the Helmholtz resonator.
