PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce pyrogenic silica doped with silver and having a germicidal action. SOLUTION: This pyrogenic silica doped with silver or silver oxide is produced by supplying an aerosol into such a flame as being used for the production of the pyrogenic silica, homogeneously mixing the aerosol with a gas mixture before reacted, then reacting the aerosol/gas mixture in the flame, and separating the resulting pyrogenic silica doped with the silver or the silver oxide from the gas flow by a well-known method.
