PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for performing a satisfactory ground improvement. SOLUTION: This method for improving ground comprises arranging a tubular casing 12 and an impact force imparting device 16 in the ground, forced-feeding of a number of granular matters into between the impact force imparting device and the circumferential ground through the casing and the imparting of an impact force to the granular matters after or during the imparting of the impact force to the circumferential ground by the impact force imparting device, repeating the imparting of the impact force to the circumferential ground, the forced feeding of the granular matters and the imparting of the impact force to the granular matters in the part up to the ground surface, and forming an underground column consisting of the granular matters in the ground. The impact force imparting device 16 is supported by a rod 14 having one end part and the other end part, which is arranged rotatably within the casing 12, on the one end part 32 side thereof. The rod 14 is provided with a blade 18 spirally wound on at least a part of the rod 14 between the other end part thereof and the device. The device can be rotatably and removably mounted on the rod 14 through an attachment.
