PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device with a protecting function heightened by preventing an unnecessary head recovery action from being executed. SOLUTION: In the ink jet recording device which records data by discharging ink from a recording head, a conveying roller 7 for conveying a sheet, a recovery means such as a cap member 32 for recovering an ink discharge from the recording head, a conveying motor 34 for actuating the conveying roller 7, s piston constituting the recovery means and the like and a sensor for detecting the state of sheet conveyance by the conveying roller 7, are the constituents of the device. Further, the device is characterized in that it is disabled from executing the recovery action by the recovery means, when the conveyance error of the sheet is detected by means of the sensor.
