PURPOSE: A propelling pencil is provided to be free from the plunging of a lead tip into a slider, even when a lead protruding from the tip of the slider is brought into contact with the face of paper. CONSTITUTION: A lead retainer(9) which frictionally holds a lead(2) is provided on a slider(13) inserted, in a freely slidable manner, into a mouth piece(7). On the periphery of the slider(13), a resist(14) for the slider(13) is provided which resists the movement of the slider(13) with a frictional resistance which is higher than the frictional resistance by the lead retainer(9). The resist(14) is brought into contact with or set in a non-contact state with the slider(13) so tat the described frictional resistance is lower than the frictional resistance by the lead retainer(9) in a specified section when the slider(13) recedes from a projecting end.
