PURPOSE: A field emission display (FED) and a method for driving the same is provided which removes residual image effect by reducing power consumption of a gate driving circuit and a data driving circuit and enabling high speed operation of the data driving circuit, thereby increasing gray scale, and can be used in all voltage control methods such as PWM (pulse width modulation) and FRC (frame rate control). CONSTITUTION: The field emission display comprises a cathode data circuit outputting data signals; a data scan driving circuit controlling the amount of electrons radiated on the panel by data signals from the data circuit as supplying current capacity flowing into the cathode circuit; and a switching means consisting of a plurality of NMOS transistors positioned between the picture elements of the display and the gate line, wherein the data driving circuit (430) is connected to the gate part of the NMOS transistor, and gate scan driving circuit (470) is connected to an input part of the switching transistor, that is, a drain part of the NMOS transistor so that the gate line of a field emitter array and the capacitance of the data line are lowered, thereby enabling high speed operation of the gate scan driving circuit (470) and the data driving circuit (430).
