PURPOSE: A method of compressing a motion picture is provided to storing digital data in a high capacity of storage medium for a long time by compressing the motion picture using MPEG-4 algorism. CONSTITUTION: The method of compressing a motion picture includes the steps of calculating the sum of SADs (Sum of Absolute Differences)(41). The sum of SADs is compared with the first threshode value that is predetermined(42). Then, when the sum of SADs is less than the first threshold value, a frame corresponding to the SADs is compressed at a higher compression rate(43). When the sum of SADs is greater than the first threshold value, the frame corresponding to the SADs is compressed at a lower compression rate(44). All absolute values of motion vectors of macro blocks included in each frame are summed(45). The sum of absolute value is compared with the second threshold value(46). When the sum is less than the second threshold value, the frame is compressed at a higher compression rate. |
