PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection device capable of preventing the deformation, damage and breakage of the interior of a fuel injection nozzle, at the time of high pressure fuel injection caused by cavitation and erosion. SOLUTION: The interior of at least the fuel injection nozzle section 10 is provided with a hard thin film-like coated layer 14 formed by chemical deposition. The coated layer 14 comprises carbide or carbon nitride containing one element belonging to the IV-B titanium group, the V-B vanadium group or the VI-B chromium group, and the film thickness is 0.1 to 20μm. The fuel injection nozzle section 10 is made of steel containing 0.3% or more carbon. It is desirable that the coated layer 14 is chemically deposited to the fuel injection nozzle section 10, and then quench-and-temper is applied to the nozzle section 10.
