PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which occurrence of abnormality is presented on the display of a computer upon occurrence of a short circuit fault in order to notify occurrence of a short circuit fault to an operator. SOLUTION: A DC voltage of 30 V is supplied from a rectifier circuit 41 to a motor drive circuit 3 and a stepping motor M and a DC voltage of 12 V is supplied from a first DC/DC converter 42 to a print head drive circuit 31 and a print head H. Upon occurrence of short circuit in the motor drive circuit 3 or the print head drive circuit 31, output voltage from a voltage division circuit 51 or 52 drops and a CPU 1 detects occurrence of short circuit and displays occurrence of abnormality on the display of a computer 200.
