PURPOSE: A belt tension compensating apparatus of an elevator is provided to restrain the generation of the slip of decelerating and driving belts by automatically compensating the tension change amount of the decelerating and driving belts, and to improve the reliability of the elevator by always maintaining the tension of the decelerating and driving belts. CONSTITUTION: A belt tension compensating apparatus of an elevator includes each belt tension compensating element installed at a decelerating belt(6) and a driving belt(9) connected between a motor pulley(4) installed at a motor shaft of a driving motor(2) mounted on one side of the upper end part of a car door frame and a driving pulley(5) installed at the car door frame, wherein the belt tension compensating elements includes a supporting shaft(14) installed on one side of the decelerating and driving belts, an idle roller(15) rotatably installed at the end of the supporting shaft for contacting with the decelerating and driving belts, and a spring(16) connected with the supporting shafts for providing elastic force so that the idle rollers push the decelerating and driving belts.
