PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute autoclave sterilization repeatedly without deteriorating optical members mounted inside an optical unit with high temperature steam in the autoclave sterilization or without clouding the optical members with dew condensation caused by intrusion of the steam. SOLUTION: The inside of the optical unit 12a constituting an imaging unit 12 mounted inside the tip of this endoscope is substituted with a dry inert gas and sealed. As a result, high temperature steam in the autoclave sterilization does not intrude into the optical unit 12a at all, so that optical members such as lenses 15 and 21, cover glasses 13 and 19, or the like, are protected from deterioration caused by the high temperature steam.
