PURPOSE: A double deck elevator is provided to allow the adjustment of a space between upper and lower cages to give no anxiety and discomfort to passengers during operation. CONSTITUTION: A winder control device(15) controls a winder(13) so that a car frame(1) is kept at a constant speed after increased in speed change at a constant acceleration and then stopped after reduced in speed at a constant deceleration. On the other hand, a cage position control device(16) controls a cage driving device(10) so that a cage driven by the cage driving device(10) is kept at a constant speed after increased in speed at a constant acceleration and then stopped after reduced in speed at a constant deceleration.
