The invention relates to a method and to devices for producing iron by fluid bed and entrained flow gasification using fossil and regenerative fuels. According to the inventive method, wuestite is reduced to iron in a largely separate process step to which wuestite and a reducing gas is continuously added from an internal or external gasification process and iron or iron carbide and a reducing gas are removed after completion of the reduction of wuestite to iron at temperatures of 750 DEG C < 150 K. A partial flow of the removed gases is returned to the external or internal gasification of the fuels as the gasification agent via special gas collection chambers or the tuyeres of a blast furnace without washing out the carbon dioxide. The invention is particularly characterized by the independent design of the temperature profile in shaft furnaces due to the partial oxidation of the gases in the top part of the shaft and the equipment of the tuyeres of the blast furnaces with burners for the gasification of substitute fuels with hot air and/or oxygen.
