PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup system capable of observation by a high quality still picture without deteriorating the resolution of an image magnified and displayed by an electronic zooming function. SOLUTION: This image pickup device which has a magnification optical system for magnifying a subject image to project on an image pickup element and executes deviation of pixels to pickup an image of higher-resolution than that of an image formed by the pixels of an image pickup element is provided with a first mode for full-screen-displaying a picked up image obtained without deviating the pixels on display means 64 and 65 and a second mode for full- screen-displaying a picked up image obtained by deviating the pixels on the display means 64 and 65 when the scaling ratio of the picked up image by the magnification optical system is equal to or larger than the prescribed value. In the second mode, deterioration of the resolution of the magnified image is compensated by deviation of the pixels to obtain a magnified image of high definition.
