PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a keyboard device and a password authenticating method using the same, with which an illegal user is prevented and the security of a system is improved. SOLUTION: A keyboard device 20 is provided with an authentication buffer 34 having a protecting function, an authentication controller 43 and an authentication table 44. A character stream inputted from the keyboard device 20 is processed by the authentication buffer 34 and a keyboard buffer 33, and a password message is transmitted to the authentication buffer 34. The authentication controller 43 automatically acquires the message from the authentication buffer 34 and compares it with a message preserved in the authentication table 44. When authentication is passed, a user can utilize a computer system. At the same time, information in the authentication buffer 34 is cleared.
