PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver which can obtain excellent reception characteristics even when there is an adjacent channel nearby a desirable channel. SOLUTION: The device has a signal quality determining means 15 which stores signal quality after demodulation, a power detecting means 13 which detects desirable channel electric power, and a power detecting means 12 which detects adjacent channel electric power. When the ratio of electric power values obtained by two electric power detecting means 12 and 13 is larger than a predetermined value, it is considered that an adjacent channel which is much larger than the desirable channel is present and the gain of an automatic gain control circuit 2 is set larger than the gain value when the adjacent channel power is small. Then the quality of the signal demodulated after the gain is set large is compared with the quality of a signal stored in a signal quality determining means 15 to set the gain larger when the quality is improved, and smaller when the quality becomes worse.
