PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an efficiency by a method wherein the discharging gas refrigerant temperature of a multi-stage side compression means is restrained so as to be low and the refrigerating effect of a refrigerating device upon the initial period of starting is increased. SOLUTION: A multi-stage compression refrigerating device is constituted so that refrigerant, discharged out of a condenser 1, is distributed and a part of the refrigerant is made to flow into a first evacuating means 3 while the other part of the same is made to flow from an intermediate cooler 6 and a second evacuating means 7 into an evaporator 8 respectively to effect heat exchange in the intermediate cooler 6 between the refrigerant discharged out of the first evacuating means 3 while the refrigerant discharged out of the evaporator 8 is sucked into a low-stage side compression means 32 and the refrigerant after effecting heat exchange in the intermediate cooler 6 is sucked into a high-stage side compression means 34 together with the refrigerant discharged out of the low-stage side compression means 32 after effecting heat exchange between the intermediate cooler 6. In this case, the intermediate cooler 6 is constituted of a reserving vessel for supplying only liquid refrigerant into the second evacuating means 7 after reserving the inflow refrigerant temporarily to separate gas from liquid while the same cooler 6 is equipped with a third evacuating means 4 to evacuate the other refrigerant which flows into the intermediate cooler 6.
