摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce production of soot while minimizing residual oxygen. SOLUTION: In a method for forming a nonoxidative or reductive atmosphere using combustion air having an air ratio lower than a theoretical level, a burner 1 comprises a heat storage media 2 and supplies and discharges combustion air alternately through the heat storage media 2 by switching exhaust gas flow and combustion air flow thereto relatively thus supplying high temperature combustion air having temperature close to that of the exhaust gas. Combustion air having an air ratio lower than a theoretical level is injected from an air throat 13 at a current velocity for normal combustion or above during rated operation and fuel is injected from a fuel nozzle 11 toward the air jet. At the outlet of air jet, i.e., at a position of some distance La from the outlet of the air throat 13, combustion air and fuel are brought into collision at a high velocity and mixed quickly.
