摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device whose power consumption is low and in which the switching of display is fast. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display device which is provided with switching elements which are connected respectively to a display data holding circuit, a common electrode and a display electrode and which controls respectively the connection of the common electrode and the display electrode in accordance with the voltage held in the display data holding circuit and counter electrodes which are opposed to the display electrodes and on which AC voltages oscillating with respect to the common electrodes are applied and which performs display by utilizing a situation that the AC voltage is applied to a liquid crystal layer when the switching element connects the display electrode and the common electrode and the AC voltage is not applied to the liquid crystal layer when the switching element releases the connection of the display electrode and the common electrode, the switching element is changed from a state in which it connects the display electrode and the common electrode to a state in which it releases the connection in a state in which the voltage of the counter electrode, the voltage of the display electrode and the voltage of the common electrode are made to be substantially equal by stopping the AC voltage which is applied to the counter electrode.</p>
