PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording and reproducing device capable of promptly recording a broadcasting material by shortening time from a starting instruction of recording to execution of actual recording by using a storage medium to which random access can be made. SOLUTION: This data recording and reproducing device is provided with a video server storage medium 202 to which the random access can be made, a signal switching device 104a to connect a supplying source of a material to be recorded with a prescribed port connected with the video server storage medium 202 based on the starting instruction of recording operation, a server manager 203 to preset a port Port 1 at a recording preparation state prior to the starting instruction of recording operation, to reset the port Port 1 at a recording execution state based on the starting instruction of recording operation and to set the other port Port 2 at the recording preparation state and a video server controller 203 to record the material in the video server storage medium 202 via the port Port 1 set at the recording execution state. |
