PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive an X-Y matrix without using an active matrix circuit in a display device which displays an image by applying voltage to a dispersion system having electrified particles dispersed in an insulating liquid to move the electrified particles. SOLUTION: A dispersion system 3 consisting of an insulating liquid 1 and electrified particles 2 is encapsulated in light-transmitting microcapsules 4 and held between a first substrate 6 on which a first main electrode 8 is formed and a second substrate 7 on which a stripe second electrode 9 is formed. A stripe-formed third electrode 11 arranged orthogonally to the second main electrode is disposed on the second main electrode 9 with an insulating layer 10 interposed there between.
