PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a decoder which receives and decodes a transport steam supplied from external equipment to avoid the occurrence of an unexpected defect through carelessness at the time of transferring data. SOLUTION: The decoder can avoid the occurrence of an unexpected defect through carelessness at the time of transferring data by setting the clock used at the time of transferring a transport stream from external equipment received by means of a digital interface means 20 to a decoding means 14 at the clock speed corresponding to such a transport stream that can be inputted through the interface means 20 and has the most fast transmission speed.
