PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a picture in a desired position even in the case of special reproduction. SOLUTION: Plural kinds of video signals are inputted through a switch SW1 one by one, and ID data corresponding to input video signals are generated by a microcomputer 28. An ID data insertion circuit 36 inserts ID data generated by the microcomputer 28 to prescribed positions of effective horizontal lines. Video signals to which ID data are inserted are recorded on a magnetic tape by a VCR. When a video signal to which ID data has been inserted is reproduced from the magnetic tape, this reproduced video signal is inputted through the switch SW1 and is compressed (reduced) to 1/4 by compression circuits 14 and 16. A write controller 26 writes the reproduced video signal in a prescribed area on a memory 22 on the basis of ID data. Reproduced video signals written in individual areas are collectively read out by a read controller 32, as the result, plural kinds of pictures are divided and displayed on a monitor screen.
