PURPOSE: A device and method for controlling an engine is provided to reduce a manufacturing prime cost by reducing a capacity of a RAM and a font ROM storing data to be printed and to perform an output as actual 600 DPI by mounting a 300 DPI controller in a 600 DPI engine. CONSTITUTION: A code of a character or a picture to be printed is inputted in a printer(1). After the code input stage is performed, the character or the picture is magnified using a 300 DPI controller as an engine control(2). After the magnifying stage is performed, it is judged whether a resolution enhancing function is selected by a user(3). If the user wishes to enhance a resolution, a position to be corrected is detected in an edge and the detected position is stored in a memory(4). After the storing stage is performed, it is judged whether a paper discharging command is inputted or not(5). If a paper discharging command is inputted, a light is scanned and a point is imprinted on a position to be corrected and a printing process is performed as a 600 DPI(6).
