PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the device and method for improving color space conversion between an input device such as a scanner and an output device such as a printer. SOLUTION: This color space conversion system has a first three-dimensional lookup table for inputting color information from an input device and converting a color specified in input device color space into color in device-independent a color space and a second three-dimensional lookup table inputting the color from the first three-dimensional lookup table and converting the color specified by color the device-independent space into the color in output device color space. A sample picture is inputted by using the input device and a sample picture is outputted by using an output device. An area where an outline in the outputted sample picture appears is identified. The list of the colors corresponding to the identified area is formed. A node in the second three-dimensional lookup table comprising the list of the colors is identified and the set of the nodes is smoothed.
