PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reflectance of a reflection type liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The device has first and second substrates 1, 3 for a reflection type liquid crystal display device facing each other through a gap, a liquid crystal layer E filling the gap between the first substrate 1 and the second substrate 3 and containing liquid crystal molecules EM, and a large number of particles P dispersed in the liquid crystal layer E. Either the refractive index n0 along the ordinary axis or the refractive index ne along the extraordinary axis of the liquid crystal molecules EM is nearly equal to the average refractive index np of the particles P, and the other refractive index of the refractive index no along the ordinary axis and the refractive index ne along the extraordinary axis of the liquid crystal molecules EM is different from the average refractive index np of the particles P. |
