PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dielectric barrier discharge lamp with a discharge vessel which is free from cracking or gas leakage owing to the accumulation of distortion caused by ultraviolet rays in the chip portion formed in the discharge vessel. SOLUTION: The discharge vessel (1) made of a quartz glass is filled with a discharge gas for generating excimer molecules by the dielectric barrier discharge, having a transparent portion, and the outer surface of its end frosted or coated with a highly refractive material (10).
