PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane rare gas fluorescent lamp that may improve the uniformity ratio of brightness by enhancing the brightness of the central portion. SOLUTION: A translucent flat first member 1 is combined with a second member 2 comprising a plurality of wall faces 4 connected in parallel with a connector 5 interposed between the adjacent wall faces, each of which forms a channel-like space 3 having a light-emitting layer 8 deposited on its inside surface. The first and second members 1 and 2 have the peripheries sealed to contain a rare gas in the space formed between them. The external electrodes 9 and 10 are separately attached to both sides of each wall element 4 along the extended direction of the channel-like space 3. There is formed a gap G between the first member 1 and the connector 5 of the second member 2.
