摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a RE-Ba-Cu-O-based oxide superconductor and a RE-Ba-Cu-O-based oxide superconductor, which exhibits high critical current density and can be put to practical use. SOLUTION: The method of producing an oxide superconductor according to the present invention includes melting a raw material for a RE-Ba-Cu-O-based oxide where RE is at least one element selected from Y and rare earth elements; solidify the resulting material to produce the oxide superconductor having a structure in which a phase consisting of RE2BaCuO5 or RE4Ba2Cu2O10 is dispersed in a superconducting phase consisting of REBa2Cu3OX. Heating and protection/maintenance upon the melting are established within a region surrounded by connecting a heating temperature axis to points (melting point of REBa2Cu3OX, 0.1 hr; melting of REBa2Cu3OX, 100 hrs; and melting point of REBa2Cu3OX+150 deg.C, 0.1 hr) on a coordinate axis having an algebraical protection/maintenance time axis using straight lines.
