PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a yoke type MR reading magnetic head capable of high production with good magnetic efficiency and high yield. SOLUTION: A magnetic yoke connected to an MR element 54 has a structure where a pair of non-conductive magnetic yoke materials 62 and 63 are joined by a joining layer 61, and the MR element is directly joined to this joined part with a bridging structure. The joining layer 61 is composed of nonmagnetic multilayer films 51, 52 and 53 laminated on a surface roughly orthogonal to the surface of the MR element.
