The near-field probe has a coated, transparent core which has a light outlet in the coating. The transparent core has a rounded, non-flat shape. The transparent core consists of an optical fiber. A method of manufacturing an optical near-field probe is also claimed, in which a fiber is heated using a CO2 laser.
