A transcutaneous access device of the type including a flat skirt (78, 78') having opposite faces and an opening (82) between said faces, a flexible, extensible tubular extension (86) having one end connected to one of said faces around said opening and a second end spaced from said skirt, a catheter (72) extending through said opening (82) and said extension (86) and connecting means (87) connecting the second end of the extension (86) to the catheter (72). That the access device also includes a second flexible, extensible tubular extension (86') having one end connected to the other face of said skirt (78, 78') around said opening (82) and a second end spaced from said skirt and second connecting means (87') connecting the second end of the second extension (86') to the catheter (72) whereby said skirt (78, 78') and the segment of said catheter between the first and second connecting means (87, 87') can move relatively in both axial and lateral directions.
