An isolated and purified polynucleotide being located at the second chromosome of mouse, encoding histidine decarboxylase and consisting of about 24 kb in the full-length containing exons from 1 to 12, wherein the base sequences at exon-intron boundaries are respectively as shown in FIG. 1. This polynucleotide is useful in, for example, constructing a histamine-defective animal required in analyzing the causes and pathologic conditions of various human diseases relating to histamine and developing therapeutic techniques, remedies, etc. for these diseases.
