A system and method for enabling the efficient conveyance of streaming data includes a true peer-to-peer server network configuration. Each intercommunicating server autonomously analyzes the bandwidth required to support each incoming data stream, evaluates its own available resources and those of its neighboring servers, configures the connections(s) between transmitting node(s) (BT), individual server(s) in the server network, and receiving node(s) (BR), and distributes data streams to other servers or the receiving node(s). The transmission of streaming data via a web browser (BT) is also enabled through software modules which take advantage of a streaming data encoder application programming interface.
