Determining the pressure losses in a pressure line (3) comprises stopping the medium in the line for a required time and effecting a pressure control device using the blocked operating pressure so that the pressure drop can be calculated. An adjustable amount of the stopped medium is added to the pressure line which is connected to a pressure control device (15) in a time interval so that the operational behavior of the pressure control device during the medium introduction is monitored and the pressure line blocked depending on its operational position. Preferred Features: Before the introduction of the medium into the pressure line, the operational pressure is decreased to the shift point of the pressure control device. The introduction of the medium into the pressure line is adjusted using a time switch (38) connected to a valve (13).
