摘要

Input signal converting means (1, 2, 3, 10) convert an input signal into a recording signal by modulating it at a timing corresponding to a predetermin ed number of tracks per predetermined signal section. A recording rate adjustin g means (12) lowers the recording rate, and recording means (7, 8, 9, 10, 11) record the recording signal onto a recording tape .alpha. while rotating a head cylinder (8) at a rotational speed which is lower than that of the head cylinder (8) corresponding to the modulation timing and corresponds to the recording rate adjusted by the recording rate adjusting means (12). The head cylinder can be constructed identically even for a system having different number of tracks per signal section due to different compression rate.
