Drive for the turntable and/or slides is taken off a drive whose vertical axis (25) lies clear of the central machine axis (15), using separate drives for the slides or a common drive for both slides, the drive motors being synchronized and one drive designed as a programmed servomotor. The drive includes superposed gears (13,14) and belts (17,19,24) to worm drive (21) and gearing (23,26) to the main axis (25) powering the turntable.
