Metallocene compounds (I) of group 3, 4 or 5 transition metals, including lanthanides and actinides, having an indenyl ligand with mono- or polycyclic heteroaromatic substituent(s), are new. Metallocene compounds of formula (I) of group 3, 4 or 5 transition metals, including lanthanides and actinides, having an indenyl ligand with mono- or polycyclic heteroaromatic substituent(s), are new; M = a transition metal atom in group 3, including and lanthanide and actinide series, or group 4 or 5 of the periodic system; Ra = a mono- or polycyclic, heteroaromatic group containing an oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen heteroatom; R<1> = halogen, 1-20 carbon (C) (halo)hydrocarbyl, (halo)hydrocarbyl-substituted silyl, hydrocarbyl-substituted amino or mono- or polycyclic amino or in adjacent pairs form a 6-8-C ring; p, q = 1-7; n, l = 0-6; X = halogen, 1-20C (halo)hydrocarbyl or (halo)hydrocarbyl-substituted silyl. An Independent claim is also included for olefin polymerization catalysts, comprising (I) and a catalyst component selected from aluminoxane, an ionic compound and a mixture of an ionic compound and an organoaluminum compound.
