A holding bunker (10) for sliced and chopped pre-pressed sugar beet particles has a conveyer-fed overhead inlet (18). Beet particles descend into the bunker chamber (12) and are subsequently discharged directly downwards through an outlet to a helical conveyer (30) under the conical base. The bunker has especially a secondary internal helical conveyer (34) projecting along the surface line of the conical base. The secondary unit tapers towards the outer extremity. The secondary helical conveyer rotates along its axis, drawing caked beet particles towards the center, and also effects a full azimuth sweep of the conical base.
