The lift installation has a cabin located on a cable drive (2) with a driver roller or drum (3). The drive drum is coupled by a shaft (4) with an AC machine (5) fed by a frequency converter (6,7) plus at least one spring force brake (10). A control device (7-11) that has a position transmitter located on the shaft effects the travel of the cabin between the floors via the frequency converter as well as the stopping of the cabin at the floors via the spring force brake. The frequency converter has a mains-supplied power part plus an emergency current-supplied control part connected in signal-fashion with the position transmitter and connected in signal-fashion with the brake control part for the control of the spring force brake.
